How does the program work?

In the Leduc area the brown signs on Alberta's highways will be replaced with new, blue ones. The information on the signs will be in the form of simple, easy to read text and clear, recognizable symbols. Tourism operators and services providers can apply for new signs by completing an application and submitting a $35.00 non-refundable administration fee. This process is handled through Guide Sign Industries and Alberta Transportation.

All signs are manufactured and placed in accordance with Alberta Transportation's Highway Construction Specifications. Under this program, applicants do not worry about design, fabrication, installation and regular maintenance of the sign. These details are looked after as part of the province's highway sign maintenance program.

Administration of the Logo Sign Program has been contracted to the Leduc and District Chamber of Commerce.

The Signs:

At the top of each Logo Sign is a symbol of one (or at the most two) of the 4 categories of essential motorist services: FOOD, GAS, LODGING or OTHER BUSINESS.

Spaced on the main part of the sign are filled with company logos or business names of companies that offer services in the category o the symbol(s) at the top.

For example, on a FOOD Logo sign travelers will see up to six logos of restaurants and other places to eat. The simple layout, in combination with recognizable logos, allows travelers to easily identify these essential services when traveling at highway speeds.

Businesses featured on the sign pay a fee to cover the cost of fabricating, maintaining and featuring their business logo.

A total of fifteen (15) signs will be erected on Highway #2. There are a limited amount of panels that are available on each sign. The signs allocated to Food, Gas and Lodging will host 6 panels per sign while the Other Businesses sign will contain nine (9) panels each.

The Cost:

There is a $35.00 on-refundable administration fee to process your application. The application fee shall in the form of a cheque, made payable to the Leduc and District Chamber of Commerce" we in turn will forward the full amount to Guide Sign Industries in Edmonton.

Once the application has been accepted the request will be directed to the Leduc & District Chamber of Commerce. As the holder of the Logo Signs contract, the Chamber is responsible for all administrative duties.

The Logo Sign program will be for a term of 5 years. When that term expires all participating businesses will be given the opportunity to renew for an additional 5 years. A renewal permit fee will apply at the end of the term. There is a nominal fee (approximately $500 - $600) to cover the routine maintenance activities for a further five (5) years.
